I couldn't had said it better myself. I didn't vote for him as President because I knew he was an incompetent dum dum before he wormed his way into office. Why the hell should I all of a sudden have to respect him now that he's in the White House?

Eli V has the right idea, it's a job no sane person could or would do. That's why You have Bush.

I agree, "respect" is something you earn, it's not automatic with the position. It's the duty of the pres. to treat the position with respect.
We have a Govenor General who as the Queen's representative has the respect of all parties. The Prime Minister is a political person and if you support that part fine. Right now, we have Conservative Stephen Harper who is a piece of crap.
Our head of State is Her Excellencey Michelle Jean, who was born in Haiti and came to Canada as a refugee as a child. Believe she is someone all Canadians can respect. She is also a very beautiful woman, she looks like a mature Halli Barri, I think I spelt her name at least close to right.

Respect is necessarily something that someone earns. When an NFL team gets a new coach, the players respect that coach, simply because he is the coach. When a military unit gets a new commander, the lower ranks respect the commander. Not because they earned, but because of the position they hold. Clinton disregarded, and disrespected the military, every time he had an opportunity, yet, he always received a crisp military salute when he climbed out of Air Force two. He didn't return the salutes very much, as I recall. And his ***** wife was even more disrespectful. Yet, they were always respected. So, no, respect is not always something you earn.

Republicans don't believe in freedom... that is the answer.

They tend to pick and choose portions of the constitution they want to follow....

The bottom line is respect is earned. With that said, a president automatically gets a certain degree of respect when he is elected; but, when a president consistently makes national choices that destroy our country's reputation and well-being, he loses that respect.

We have the right to respect or not respect any person we choose to... that is one of the freedoms of this country.

When a Republicans disagrees with a person, they basically say you are anti-American when in reality by them just making that judgment, they are the ones against true freedom.

The office of the president deserves everyones respect. The fact that it no longer does is a testament to how far some will go to demean this president and the presidency. Like him or not, he commands the United States military...he deserves to be shown proper respect.

I have known a few people who Command respect. It is in their nature. Mr. Bush doesn't seem to command that sort of respect, nevertheless, he deserves it.

I feel respect should have been given after first elected because of the position. But then, it was this current president that lost my respect after a few years by invading Iraq when they had nothing to do with Iraq, not providing veterans with good benefits, not supplying our troops with good armor, not responding to Katrina because of his cronyism, disrespecting the flag by standing on it, and increasing the deficit and national debt to unbelievable levels. So, when Chavez calls him the Devil, I laugh.

There is a certain amount of respect that the position deserves and you need to be respectful to the person occupying that position even though you have the right in the country to not respect it, every should. You can choose to not respect the person in the office of president unless he earns it.

If someone is a democratically elected leader of a free nation he deserves respect by virtue of his position and all the hard work it took for him to get there. Things like calling him evil, mentally unstable, a loser should be above any other elected offical in office yet liberals continue to do it to this day.

But I suppose trying to explain patriotism and respect to a liberal is like trying to throw an egg through a brick wall.
