I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I am 37 weeks pregnant. The highest my sugar level has been is 155. Is this something I should worry about,or should I be fine? Is it something to call ER over?

I had that with my last baby and yes its serious but your baby will be fine if you take care of your self and do as the doctor says,my baby is 3years old now and great .You must get your blood sugar level under control a low GI healthy diet will do that for most people but I needed insulin shots 4 times a day ,.diet and exersise (gentle) will do the job unless you get worse. The thing is it makes the baby grow too fast and they can be born big but with undeveloped lungs if you dont take care of it.the good thing is you dont have long to go ,I was diagnosed much earlyer so had longer to deal with it.PS as soon as baby is born it will be gone but you have a high chance of getting type 2 diabeties when you are older.

I have type 1 diabetes, i've been told if i get pregnant, it will be just like i have gestational diabetes, you should keep you BSL in the safe zone, just eat mainly low GI foods, like wholegrains, vegies, and some fruits, try not to eat too much citrus fruits, they are loaded with sugar, bananas are a good low gi fruit, also you can eat alot of "free" foods, foods that have no carbs or sugar, like all vegies (except for potato and corn, not sure about sweet potato though), 1 hand full of nuts, strawberries and other berries i've been old are free foods.
For breakfast, try having oats, or muesli, don't have coco pops or some other high gi and high sugar food.
If you BSL gets too high, then i would go to the hospital, has your doctor given you any insulin to take if your Blood Sugar Level gets too high? coz you should have some.

You may have a larger baby resulting from this and it is considered a 'high risk pregnancy'.
Please follow all of your doctors instructions on diet and excercise and go to ER or call your doc if you have any questions or concerns....ER's usually have a helpline and can instruct you on coming in to the emergency room or wait for a doctor visit. Trust your better instincts, you know yourself and body better than anyone....youre almost there though!
Congrats and enjoy being a mommy!

No, but do try to stick to whole grains and fresh fruit. My diabetes educator told me to definately stay away from any kind of fruit juice while pregnant because even if it says "No sugar added" it is still high in natural sugars.

First off, never call the E.R. They can not give out any medical advice over the phone. They will always tell you to come in if you are concerned. When you are pregnant and have any concern at all, always call your O.B. They know you and your history and that is what you are paying them for. It costs no extra to call your O.B.

If you are really scared then go to the delivery area of the hospital you are scheduled to have the baby in.

You can call them just to make sure. Are you on bedrest? My BF had gestational diabetes. Are you staying with the diet? Are you taking your shots if your bsl gets too high? I would call just to make sure. Better safe than sorry. GOOD LUCK!

No, just get lots of rest and drink lots of fluids...and discuss your baby with your doctor b/c the baby is probably going to be a little bigger than normal. and gestational diabetes usually leave after you deliver the baby, so you should be fine. its nothing to call the ER over.
