If I have an MCSE WINDOWS 2000 Certification, what is the difference between this and MCSE WINDOWS 2003? Can the skills obtained from MCSE WINDOWS 2000 be easily transferred to MCSE WINDOWS 2003? Or do i need to know a bit more?

Server 2003 is quite different from Server 2000 in some areas.

Buy a Windows Server 2003 book, probably all you need if you already have MCSE.

Problem is that MCSE Windows Server 2000 is out of date now.

A good book is Windows Server 2003 Inside Out by William Stanek, get it at Amazon.

Microsoft has certifications that you can take for upgrading to 2003. And yes, you need to do that because 2003 is used in some business (although not a lot anymore). Active Directory is improved on it along with some other features and security issues. And it is the only operating system made to work with Exchange Server 2007.

Depends on how you look at certs. Of course there are changes. As a cert holder, I'm a bit surprised you can't answer that for yourself. The nature of being a technologist or software engineer, is that you have to continue to educate yourself. Things constantly change. If you're not learning on the job, you may have to dig into the changes. As someone 2k certified, you should explore things that changed from 2k to 2003. Google is your friend, although there may also be books purely on the subject of migrating or "what's new".

In general, the most important thing is to have sound fundamentals. If the changes in 2003 make you seriously question whether your skills are no longer current, I think the first question you should ask yourself is, what fundamental education am I missing?

Microsoft has given you the easiest path to upgrade--two exams. I would take the time to complete the upgrade and then expand your horizons!

There are probably more bug work-arounds to know about, and system failures to be aware of.
