Normally there are two. At the discretion of the coach though, it can be three, four or even five. It depends on what his motivation is and what he thinks of certain players.

Well there can be a few. Most teams make the quarterback the "captain" per say. During championships they sometime have 3 "captains" represent the team on the coin flip. It's not really a widely used term in American Football as compared to European Football (soccer to us yankees).

Teams will have a captain for the offense, defense, and special teams - making three - but some teams have more then that. Generally the Quarterback is given the position of leadership simply because the nature of the position calls the quarterback to be so.

it's up to the head coach, there is no limit specified in the rules. normally, there are 3. an offensive, defensive and special teams captain. they are usually chosen by the players in a vote.

The leader of our offense is an offensive lineman, so it's not restricted to the QB.
