Hi LEVAT... "They" = doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals on TV and radio, friends and family, as well as articles I've read on the Internet. I had never heard a reason for the theory, though, which made me wonder if it was indeed a theory or a fact. You all have helped, tremendously.

It really depends on how they cut you on the inside. If they cut across your stomach on the outside and the inside, you can have a natural birth the next time, but most c-sections are not planned, unless the woman has health problems and in an emergency they cut up across on the outside but up and down on the inside. When they do this, if you try to have regular childbirth the next time your old incision(inside) can burst open and you could die before they could do anything about it.

I know this because that is what my doctor told me when I was having my 2nd child. I hope this was helpful for you.

It is definitely possible, although there are several hospitals with blanket policies that simply will not allow a woman with a history of caeserian to attempt a natural delivery. The reason is the risk of rupture, as previously stated, and also because the muscles have been cut through, it can weaken the muscles that contract to push the baby out. If it's important that someone who previously had a caeserian try to have a natural birth, they should discuss this with their physician from the beginning of the pregnancy to find out how this can be made an option for them. And now that caeserian is becoming more common and there are more medical advances, this is becoming less and less frequently the case, because it's much safer now for women to deliver naturally even after a caeserian.

There are plenty of women who do have vaginal births after c-section. It's called VBAC.
There is a small risk of uterine rupture at the surgical incision scar site with uterine contractions after a c/section w/ nautral labor. This is especially true of the cut called a midline that goes from the umbilicus (belly button) to pubic bone. The midline scar is more prone to rupture than the newer used bikini cut.
But if a woman really wants to try natural birth after a c/section there are plenty of successful births stories out on the web. She would just need to find a doctor or midwife who is willing to monitor her during labor to make sure she doesn't rupture.

Fucckk what they say I had a c section and I was tod I could have a normal. The reason for mine was because the baby was breech. As long as you dialate on time and the baby isn't at risk the second time around you can have a VBAC. Also the hospital must allow you to some don't.

Usually they had a C-section in an emergency or for health reasons. That meant they probably also shouldn't have more babies for a long time if they were worried about health. Lots of times the health emergency is related to obesity, and obesity makes it harder for the necessary muscles to be strong enough for vaginal delivery. Another reason.

Who is they? anyhow, once you have a caeserian section one can be allowed to labor and deliver on their own naturally. However, some doctors will not allow it. A second caeserian section however will mean you shall never be allowed to deliver naturally because the uterus is weak to withstand the heavy contractions of getting the baby out. It can rapture causing a condition called Uterine rapture and lead to death of both the child and the mother

This is a whacked theory. I think money hungry obstetricians started this rumor. Nowadays this is considered old fashioned thinking and many women have given birth vaginally after having a c-section the first time.

Years ago, thats the way it was. If you had a C- section you had to have the rest C-section. But It's not that way now. I gave birth Naturally with my son, had a C-section with my middle Daughter, and had my last one Naturally.
