Well, I'm inclined to agree with Linda R. If you ask around, you'll be surprised to find just how many Britons (assuming this is the island in question) are really in favour of the Monarchy. And those that aren't will usually protest on the grounds of cost, that is, until they are informed that it only costs them around 55p each year, and the cost has only gone down from year to year.
I must, though, first make the distinction between being a Royalist and a Monarchist. I am a Monarchist. I am not a Royalist. I support the institute of Monarchy and all that it stands for. I do not support Prince Andrew's (The Duke of York's) golf trips.
The institute of Monarchy is incredibly important to us as a nation, something of which pitifully few people are aware. It is a mechanism built into the core of our constitution (something that, again, pitifully few people are aware we even have) that ensures the sanctity, function and stability of our nation. We are a Constitutional Monarchy. The Monarchy exists today because
we want it to. It remains as the ultimate check, the ultimate balance, upon the executive branch of our government; something that no other form of government can offer.
Her Majesty has devoted her life to us, her subjects. I would challenge any one of you to stand up and proclaim at the age of twenty-one that you shall devote your life "whether it be long or short, ... to your service and to the service of our great Imperial Family to which we all belong."
There really isn't enough space or time to fully explain the entire importance of this wonderful institution to our nation, but I can ensure you all of one thing: The day that the United Kingdom becomes a republic, the Home Secretary shall receive my passport (and along with it, my citizenship) across his desk.
Vive la reine!

If your Island is in the UK, then no you aren't, but it probably feels like it. The people making the noise are the ones who don't want the Monarchy to remain. Which is why I was so surprised when 3 million showed up to cheer the Queen for her Golden Jubilee!
Seriously though - think of the alternative - Tony Blair as Head of State/President once he retires from being PM? *shiver*. I grew up in a Republic based on the UK parliamentary system with proportional representation, where the role of "President" was given to outgoing politicians as a golden handshake and believe me, you don't want it here!

Difficult to say since you don't say which island you are on. I would like to answer yes, regardless of which island, as I am not at all a fan of the royal family. In fact, I think they are a pretty unpleasant bunch and I am genuinely puzzled by people admiring them. For what? Moreover, how on earth can we in the UK call ourselves a democracy when we cannot even vote out our so-called Head of State.
OK, that's my view.

If you are talking about Britain then no I believe there are more royalists than you would think. I am one, I love and respect my Queen and think she is a fantastic lady who has given her life to her Country, how can you not respect that.
God bless her and long may she reign.

You could well be. Royalty is a hark back to the days of despotiem when torture was the norm, Monarchs ruled by terror, human rights did not exist and birth was the deciding factor of how much you were worth. If that is the sort of thing you support that's up to you but you won't get many supporters.

I like the queen, Charles, Camilla, William and Harry, wouldn't say I am that fond of Prince Phillip or Andrew, but they are part of what the royal family is.
