No its not stupid to hope you'll be happier in an afterlife because seeing what the world has become to one can only hope that there is a better place to be when they die.

No, its not stupid. Many religions and cultures emphasize good behavior in the current life will lead to richer rewards in the after life. We've been told this countless times, so that its natural to think the after life will be better.
However, that doesn't mean you should live this life poorly. For all you know, this may be your only life, so live it wisely!

Yes, it's stupid. But stupid people are often so blissed out on their own ignorance that they try to pass it around. Belief and hope are great substitutes for curiosity and understanding. Don't give these people a hard time. If they realized that they really don't know, they'd spend their whole lives fretting.

It will be determined on your relationship with your creator. He is the one we must respect, honor, and answer to. His direction are to be followed, When it is done from a willing heart, the here and now can be a lot happier, along with life here after.
