I know two ways. The one I like best is a product called Hot Iron Cleaner, or Hot Iron-Off (two brands, same stuff). You apply some of the cleaner to a heavy cotton rag such as toweling, and you run the iron over it to remove the melted substances. It doesn't smell bad and it doesn't leave any residue of its own. It's also good for routine things like removing spray starch from the soleplate. I have seen these cleaners in hardware stores, fabric stores, on Amazon.com, in Bed, Bath and Beyond.....

In the old days before there was such a product, I would unplug the iron and use a Brillo or S.O.S. pad and water. It worked, but then I'd have to really shoot steam out of it to get the soap residue out of the steam holes. If you try this, scrub gently, because if you scrath your iron it won't slide as smoothly over the clothes when you iron.

Smack it over his head a few times that auta do it. If that doesn't work use fine sandpaper and then let the rest burn off.
