Wow, I never realized that saying faucet made me a Yank. I'm from Missouri. But I've been "down South" and was shocked that being from Missouri made me a Yank in their eyes. But whatever, it's all good.

As for your question, where I live people wouldn't normally say "the faucet is running." We say "the water is running," which as you can see makes quite a bit more sense.

well yes a tap is fixed to the sink,(unless it is a garden tap or a standpipe) but remeber the water supply is in underground pipes that you have to "tap" into to get the water out. the tap is therefore names as a description of what it does- tap into the water supply so you can get the water out of the pipes in a controlled way

Cause once you hear the water running you are doing a tap dance before you head to the powder room....
tap a maple tree....
tap a whiskey barrel...
tap a water fountain...

I believe its the water, that is said to run, rather then the tap.

i got here across that some people dont have what's termed a shed yet once you pass to the keep and click on 'profession' in case you pass down there'll be gadget bins on the industry purchase one and your little people will restoration your sink. :)
