I was shocked to find gas today at $1.99 a gallon at 2 stations..a block away it was 2.09..my brother saw it for 2.05 yesterday, so it went down again today as I jusdt filled my tank 5 hours ago, but in the richer areas, I saw it today for 2.19...but for me, happy day, $1.99,

Tecnically it shoud be about $1.59 (inflation adjusted) had they not shot it up and down the last 4 or 5 years.

I appreciate that you are asking this question of your fellow Americans, but you might like to know how much I paid per gallon to fill my car today, here in the UK...

It was 86.9 UK pence per litre(we use the metric system these days!). which works out at 3.945 UK Pounds per (Imperial) gallon. In US money that would be would be 7.496 US Dollars.

And so that you can relate that price to your own country, that equates to 6.246 Dollar per US gallon.

Now you know why we Brits tend to buy highly efficient, smaller engined cars. Although my car is a German 2 litre model, it still manages to do around 35 MPG.

My American brother-in-law has a 4.5 litre SUV which seems to consume the monthly output of a small oil well, yet it less comfortable, more noisy, less safe (C of G is very high) , and pollutes much more than my car. And it doesn't have the same performance, either. Fortunately, my 3 American nieces make up for their father's profligacy by running a pair of Mercedes and a Volvo!

By the way, until last week our 'gasolene' cost the equivalent of 6.898 US Dollars per US gallon.

So don't complain too much about your fuel costs!

Happy motoring...
