I mean are these just uneducated people desiring to make more money if they go back to school ???

I have a B.S. in Poli. Sci., a B.S. in History and a Master of Public Affairs (like an MBA for the public sector) and every job I find only wants to pay around 30,000 - 40,000 a year .... and then they want years of experience.

Also if you don't believe me ... look at any university's employment page ... they want you to have a Ph.D. to get a job that pays 25,000 a year!

Yet in your classes they tell you will make near 100,000 year starting out.

ALL UNIVERSITIES ARE DOING IS TRYING TO SELL YOU CLASS ... IT IS A BUSINESS LIKE ANY OTHER ... am I wrong?

At one time this was true, but now we have so many jobs going to 3rd world countries, that the good old all American education is really being devalued.

I have a Master's in Comp Sci. It is abot 15 years old and I can't even get a job, hell, I can't even get an interview. I lost my job in the computer industry, where i busted my butt being a single Mom and work about 50 hours a week, I did not have time to learn new skill, now when I should be thinking I can retire in 9 or 10 years, I am looking to start over again.

I am convinced to make a living in this country you have to go hand's on, electrician, builder, plumber....they can't offshore these kind of jobs

Great point! I don't have a degree, but I've got over 20 years of management experience, my wife has a science degree and only makes $10k more than me. Don't know if it was worth the $100k investment (I mean the degree).

Personally, I think the whole college network is a big scam. I think life and work experience is worth a lot more than a degree (no offense!). College is just to prove to your prospective employer that you have the ability to learn. I work in business and from what I've seen, people with MBA's are overrated. They are fine with the facts and the figures, but don't know how to communicate effectively, are unable to problem-solve, and don't know how to motivate. You learn those by experience only. Good post, let's change the whole system! Good luck with your job hunt, I wish you well.

There are great paying jobs out there, you do need a college education. But you also need a great personality. you need good references and you need to be willing to start for lower pay.
there are jobs starting at $100,000. but those are for people who graduate at the top of their class, did internships for that company and have value to that company already. If you went through school and never had a job, why should a company pay you that much for no experience? Get real and work your way up like the rest of us with our college educations. It will pay off faster than someone with out the degree.

I had many, many problems finding jobs that paid enough to live on when I didn't have a degree. The vast majority of jobs that pay enough to live on require some kind of degree. I had to look for almost 6 months before I could find a job. I only had to look for 2 weeks to find a job after I finally got my bachelor's degree. My ex boyfriend found the same thing out.

That statistic of a million dollars more is completely false. Don't believe it. Most college graduates don't even go into the field they Majored in, anyway.

On average the college graduate makes a million dollars more in his lifetime than the HS graduate.
Don't demean your education - you learn how to think in college - and I seriously doubt anyone would be foolish enough to tell you that you will earn $100K starting out. Would you believe them?
