According to pc architecture both are equal in terms of power but one fact still overcomes this question the fact is that IBM or pc is and has been open specifications thus competition became strong and the clones were born this equal lower prices on the pc world. mac on the other hand was proprietary(private) so no competition was around for a long time this meant that mac cost had no reason to lower it self. bottom line pc is cheaper in prices because of its open specifications, mac is more expensive because no competition!

It's not Ford vs. Chevy. It's Kia vs. Rolls Royce. Apple does use quality hardware. From a design aspect, the hardware is top notch. They have the thinest, lightest notebooks. Look at the iMac... How many PCs are so compact, yet powerful? Apple takes a lot of pride in building beautiful machines. Mac OS X is the most advanced operating system in the world. It gets it's roots from NeXTSTEP. NeXTSTEP was ahead of it's time back in the early 90's, with powerful graphics and the capability to network with any kind of network (Sun, Windows, Macintosh, UNIX). PCs are junk, really. People just don't realize it because they've been forced to use them all their lives.

I know in many ways Macs are better than PCs. However with that being said, I still prefer PCs. Here's why:
1. I find the PC interface more intuitive to me. I never liked the Mac interface (both pre and post OS X).
2. More software/games run on PC than on Mac (this might change now that Mac uses intel chips).
3. I can buy a PC (both desktop and laptop) for a lot less than a Mac. I can also build my own PC if I like.
