Start your search through the town or city records.
Ask the elderly people that live in your area, they know more than any document will ever know.

try the county recorder's office. they should have records of year built, additions, property lines, selling part of the land, change of ownership, etc. They may not have bit of information, but it is a start.

You can look up property in local tax records that are usually online - it will give the background of who owned it.
