Well, I'm not sure if I would consider him the greatest writer of all time, but he's up there. His plays have influenced generations of people and have spread these stories all over the world. They also exposed the "common man" to what we would now consider literature.

He is not.

Greatness is a concept that only resides in opinion.

He may be one of the most popular, however. This is because he wrote a lot. They are popular because they are in the format of a theatrical play, and it allows people to perform and become involved with the story. This is why his stories live on.

Frankly, I think that there are better writers than he. Douglas Adams, Arthur C. Clarke...

his writing appeals to many audiences. there are some crude jokes but also some ones in good taste.

one example is is romeo and juliet when the two servants are talking in the beginning and they are talking about cutting off the other maiden's heads just for spite of the other family. then the other one says "or their maidenheads" which was a crude reference to a maidens privates.

but yeah i dont think that he is the best writer even though i can sortof quote his works.

His characters were richly developed. His turn of phrase was exquisite. He was English (which is why we know of him). He was a prolific writer for Queen Elizabeth, a demanding audience.

it can't be explained in simple words...He was the firts to made words...not just words, but magic ...
...and he wrote so much....!!
It's one of the few english poets who everyone knows also here in Italy...

Because he understood people, especially their feelings and motives, and because he could express his understanding perfectly.
