No that's dumb! YOU NEVER EVER abandon your team, ESPECIALLY your national team. Don't you know that by now being a Brasilian fan and all that? They would never abandon their team-mates. Portugal is Deco's national team and he's great with them. His style is different from Brasil's style of play. Plus, now that Pauleta and Figo are gone, they need Deco more than ever!

Deco didn't move to Portugal as a child and had no Portuguese descents. He gained Portuguese citzenship because he lived during 5 years in Portugal.

Since Brazil has a very strong team and players like Juninho are substitutes, it was very difficult for Deco to get selected for the national team.So he changed his nationality to Portugese to play for a national team.Similarly Tunisia's goalie some Dos Santos changed his nationality to Tunisian for the same reason.I hope some talented Brazilian in future changes his nationality to Indian. If he wants he can change his nationality back to Brazilian but he will only change if he gets selected for the Brazilian national team.

1) He gets more playing time in Portugal.

2) Citizenship is part of it. But he has a choice of whom to represent. He could be from Portuguese descent.

he wanted to play for brazil but the coach did not select him. he was eligible to play for portugal because he was playing at porto for a long time. he cannot play for brazil now having represented portugal.
