Taking a step from here to there is a sacrafice. It is the exertion of energy. I feel that the populace is not being called upon by the government to help with our many national problems. There seems to be no "there" spoken of. We are strictly stuck "here". That's the way I feel. What about you?

JFK said it best.....

"Ask not what your country can do, but what you can do for your country."

He pledged to take us to the moon.

Bush pledged to take us to Mars.

Taking a step from here to there is life, not sacrifice.

The direction of our stride is our choice, as is who we walk with.
For that matter, so is whether we even choose to walk. the government must have a clear vision to lead us in our various walks of life.

The problem is edemic to democracy. Our leaders are chosen for a 4 year term, hardly the time necessary to create much less install a VISION.

Great leaders historically have long terms to mold public policy and impose their particular brand of rulership, whether it is an FDR or a Queen Victoria or Louis the XIV.

The other way that greatness or vision comes along is when it is thrust via some crisis which calls for bold action and decisivness.

like with Winston Churchill or Ronald Reagan.

Time will tell whether the current president will be judged hero or goat by history, but sometimes I think we have to try to limit our expectations.

We live in such a fortunate time and place in history, we lose track of how much better it is here than everywhere else in the world and begin to expect perfection from an inherently flawed (albeit the best available) system.

Norman made a prescient comment; compared to what's coming,
we haven't seen anything yet.

The principle approach by the gov't so far has been to keep things looking/feeling easy & good & ignore the deepening problems that are so disturbing that no one dares discuss them in public.

So to answer the question, no.

I completely disagree...
I think that we're always on the move and at times, even drastic.
Also...it's spelled sacrifice, not "sacrafice" =)
