columbia and upenn are good choices - private, expensive, prestigious, big cities. what about university of chicago? i'd say also washingotn university.

US News ranks them #34.

How would you define a similar school? If you mean "exceptional Private nonreligious university in a major Eastern city" then Columbia, University of Pennsylvania and Tufts come to mind.

Prestige or location? Prestige I'd say University of Southern California. I don't know about location since I've never been to NYU.
