Mine hasn't but I just wanted to add that a windowsill is not a good basking spot for a turtle if the glass is down because sunlight filtered through the glass is deprived of its value; sunlight must reach the turtle unfiltered. If a turtle is not getting unfiltered natural sunlight, then he needs a basking spot with a UVA/UVB light of at least 5% and a heat lamp.

Turtles and tortoises and ALL reptiles can carry salmonella. Turtles have not have been given from now on or a raffle of giving it to you than an iguana or a Gecko. turtles recieved a bad rap by way of fact as quickly as upon a time gala's etc used to have cubicles wihere you threw your dime and if it landed in a splash bowl you gained the bowl and its contents.... regularly a goldfish or a splash water turtle. the priority then spawned from people twiddling with their new "prize" and then turning suitable around and ingesting their cotton candy, warm dogs what have you ever's. Had those gala's been giving out lizards somewhat of turtles then we would all concern the lizards by way of fact the samonella danger of the international. To me... Turtles are extra durable to shelter purely given which you're conversing approximately water transformations, basking spots and etc. issues you do no longer could rigidity approximately with Tortoises. Turtles whether are much less confusing so a techniques as nutrition plan is going as there are a number of commercial meals available on the industry on an identical time as Tortoises desire a endless grant of unpolluted produce on a regular basis. They the two choose comprehensive spectrum UVB. i will seek for some large hyperlinks for you yet this may well be a sturdy bit to initiate with. ~Tyed~ hyperlinks further!

Not since he was a baby. But he still likes to sit where it is warm and protected and nap. I have a slider so he is in an aquarium most of the time. But I take him out and let him sit in a sunny window at least once a week, he loves looking out doors and basking in the sun. This allows him to replentish the vitamin D he needs to assure his calcium is available for shell growth and health. Just give him a place to get out of the sun if it is too strong for him.
Pet shop personnel may tell you not to handle them, but if you don't they become afraid of you, even if you don't do it for only a week or two. Just always wash your hands before and after playing with them or working with their things. Turtles can catch germs easily and also spread them.

No because I only let him out if I'm asleep. Oh and my dad saw a HUGE snapping turtle in the road today! He said he couldn't have even picked him up! Sorry I just thought that was kind of kool.

Nope, but then we just got our turtle today and he doesn't quite trust us yet. I've had snakes fall asleep in my shirt before, though. They get so still & quiet you don't even notice them until they poo on you, lol!

My Red-foot tortoise would fall asleep on my lap- but don't read too much into that- we are just soft and warm hidy holes to them.
