My humble opinion...the '66/'67 Chevy ll Nova SS was the ultimate Chevy muscle car of all time. In 1966 this little car equipped with the L-79 engine option ran in the SAME class and was able to defeat the Hemi's of the day. Not even the vaunted Chevelle SS 396/454 could do that!

in the early 60's the impala ss, belair, or Biscayne with the 409 engine was king. towards the mid 60's chevy diversified, the corvair spyder (turbo), chevy II/ nova ss with it's 327, the malibu/ chevelle ss was introduced and quickly got a 396. for the late 60's the camaro was introduced and could have rs, ss or z-28 trim, the nova ss got a 396, and the corvair & impala lost status. the first couple of years of the 70's saw the chevelle ss as king, the nova could still get a bb, but was very rare, the camaro still had rs, ss & z-28 trim. mid 70's sucked. there was an attempt at a vega gt and monza spyder, but i wouldnt consider them muscle cars. the camaro lost ss trim and even z-28 trim for a while. the late 70's & early 80's had the camaro z-28. mid 80's saw the monte carlo ss and the iroc z-28. of course the corvette was around, but it has always been classified as a sports car.

Chevelle, Malibu, Camaro, (and all the SS/RS/ and other package options), Nova, Nova II, Vega, Impala, Biscayne, Corvette, Monte Carlo, and, well I know there are a lot more than this.
This is not to mention all GM muscle cars, just Chevy's.

Well that was back a ways but I'd have to say Camero, Camero-z28, MonteCarlo, Corvette,ElCamino, and sometmes even the Impala. My personal favorite was the Chevelle. I believe there was also a Chevelle SS.
