This would allow them to date events on Mars in an absolute fashion as we do on Earth, rather than in the relative way that they do now (relative to the landing date of each Rover, for example). Some number of Martian 'months' could be set up, with unique names, and some arbitrary day one could be determined (Percival Lowell's birthday perhaps?)

Probably because no one lives there yet. The folks who work with the Spirit and Opportunity rovers were keeping Martian time for a while, I'm not sure if they're still doing that. But since no people live there, they don't need to keep track of time that way. Besides, NASA isn't the only group sending space craft to Mars, so it would be rather presumptious for them to invent the Martian calendar.

Make one and sell it as a novelty item. I think it would be cool.
