We are planing on going to Colonial Williamsburg this coming spring. Can you/ do many people dress up in time period clothes? (We all want to know if people really do) And is it as much fun as it looks? And any other helpful information about it would be awesome! Thanks in advance!!

We Virginians love our colonial history! Williamsburg is very well-presented. But, for small children, it is a lot of walking, and sometimes boring...

Just plan your stroll around the streets to coincide with the operating hours of glass blowers, candle makers, etc.
There are people in period dress, and working thier trade -
miller, baker, blacksmith, etc.

And, let management at Williamsburg's Visitor's Ctr know you want to wear period clothing. They will not only welcome you,
They're liable to give you some free passes!

Like I said, we just LOVE our colonial history!
And, visitors who also love it are always welcome!

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is a fun place. It's been years since I went, but they had an old European theme with an Octoberfest pavillion, etc...... Many of the buildings were reproductions of the 1500's, etc.... They also had lots of rides.

There are actors at Colonial Williamsburg.

Jamestown, Va is nearby. It was the first city in the new world. I think they have old-timey ships anchored there.

Most of the people whom are 'dressed up' in period clothes work there - but it is not discouraged.

There is a lot to see there - so plan on arriving as soon as the visitor center opens. If you wait, you may spend a good chunk of your time in line just waiting to get in!

Everything there is on the pricey side, so expect to spend a lot of money.

Tours of the homes are staggered every 10-15 minutes or so, and you must walk through with a group and guide - there are no self guided tours. If your timing is 'off', you can also end up wasting a good chunk of your day waiting to get in to see the buildings.

Overall - it is a great educational trip. Your family is sure to love it!

The workers there are dressed for that period but normally visitors do not. I went there and it was a blast.

We went years ago and it was not as it is now. You should go! It's really nice and fun to see all they have to show!
