We eat egg noodles cooked in butter as one side dish. My husband who is from Georgia, thinks this is strange. I want to know areas some people are from and what are the typical things they eat. Mine, aside from turkey, are: mashed potatoes, green been casserole, NOODLES, bread, fresh vegetable platter, stuffing/dressing, olives (green and black). Of course we have pies - you can add those of you like.rr

This year I would like to try something different besides the same old roasted turkey bit.

Prime Rib with a typical garlic rub.
Scalloped potato's and/or baked potato w/ all the fixings.
Espignole sauce.
Fresh veggies w/ spring mix salad.
Fresh croissant rolls.
For dessert homemade bread pudding w/ a wild turkey carmel sauce.
Family and football.
Last but not least an assortment of red and white wines, a steady supply of crown royal and beer!

Well my husband and I started a new thing a few years back since we both now get a 4 day weekend we can enjoy. We start the day before after we get off work have a few drinks (Wild Turkey of course) as we prepare the things that don't need to be cooked on Thursday. Pies, stuffing and what not. Thursday morning we get up and start the turkey, usually get a nap in and then get going on the potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce. Warm the stuffing, rolls and make gravy last.

We take turns having thanksgiving at different houses and letting them cook the entire meal. A usual dinner would consist of homemade macaroni and cheese, homemade green bean cassarole, homemade mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing (lol) and usually some kind of veggie from a can. Then we usually have dinner rolls and of course tons of pie for dessert. :)

My Mother made a 24 hr grape salad with marshmellows and a cooked dressing. It is delicious . I love it. I make it if I have a group. I also like bread stuffing with saugage. it is our tradition to have a vegetable of every color to celebrate the harvest. The green bean onion ring casserole, Yellow , zuchini and acorn squash. Cranberries. ( we consider that the blue and red as it is like a purple when cooked.)
also a plate of raw vege and dip with radishes and califlower and cucumber and carrots and olives and pickles. Hot bread or rolls. Sometimes mashed potatoes and giblet gravy. At least 3 kinds of pie with whipped cream and ice cream. Usually mincemeat, pumpkin and cherry. Coffee and after dinner liquor. Fine choclate candy is passed after that.

OK I'm from the South also and I have to agree with your husband. At my house we have, roasted or smoked turkey, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows of course, cornbread sage dressing, butterbeans, giblet gravy, yeast rolls, and at least 3 to 4 different pies, pumpkin, sweet potato, chocolate and maybe a dump cake. All with sweet tea of course.

We have about the same minus the Noodles. But we have more pickles and we also have a sweet potato dish with marsh mellows melted on top or we smashed the sweet potatoes and whip them and add cinnamon and butter. Pumpkin pie and apple are a must have also.
