Nothing under 90% and preferably an average over 95%. Check the website for requirements other than scholastic. Do well in all your classes including the ones you hate and the ones that have nothing to do with what you will be studying at Columbia.

In addition, you will need some significant financial resources so it might be well to have a backup plan and university.

I've only been through the graduate process in the school. To be honest they look a lot into what family you have that is alumni, how much money is given, and how you will pay for your education. Your grades are secondary when compared to those.

As for grades, it is like any other Ivy school that requires between a 4.0 and 4.5 (weighted GPA). They also look heavily into what school you came to, so if you graduated from a top private high school, your chances are that much higher. Clubs, extracurricular, and all the 9 yards of what any prestigious school wants.

If you don't come from a wealthy family and want a top of the line education, you are better off going to UC Berkeley or UCLA. It then becomes easier to get into graduate school (not law/mba) if you're a graduate from those schools with good GPA. If you're desperate for NY schools, try NYU and Syracuse since those do open their doors to a wider variety of students.

more or less straight As, and even that's not a guarantee. when you get up to that level of selectivity, there's nothing you can do to ensure admission. they look for academic rigor and success, good writing, extra-curricular involvement, etc. it's a tough school, but a great school.
i've had friends apply with 3.8 GPAs or higher and be denied. but i've also had friends get in. it's possible, but difficult.
