Bettas (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) are perfect companions for neons. They are both non-agressive. Male bettas only fight with other male bettas.
There is also a black neon which is slightly larger than the regular red and blue variety. It is also safe with bettas.
Neons are not real hardy fish, but if you keep your pH below 7.0 they should do OK. Their mouths are quite small, remember to feed them fine flake food.
Also, don't forget to do your regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water changes to keep them all healthy and happy.

MALE bettas will only fight with other MALE bettas. They are actually quite peaceful in community tanks. I've had a betta in my 20 gallon with tetras of all kinds, and the reason I had to take it out was because the tetras were nipping at the fins of the betta. Just make sure the neons won't nip the betta.

bettas of either gender are perfectly peaceful with long bodied tetras like neons (and glo-lites, lemon tetras and emperor tetras).
also, they are mostly peaceful with short bodied tetras (eg: mixed fruit, painted glass, red-finned minor) especially if the tetra doesn't have long fins, so you really can't go wrong putting bettas and tetras together.

definitely. I've had neons and a beta in a community tank with no problems. A male beta is not aggressive towards most other fish; usually only male betas.
So, please do not believe all those who will tell you that the beta will eat any other fish in the tank. If you're still not sure, see the website below, which will confirm my information.

a betta will only attack other male bettas
*but*
most tetras are nibblers...so the betta is in danger
I have had many neon tetras in with my betta...and never had a problem.
your local pet store can help you decide which type of fish is best suited for a betta companion

Yes, with non-aggressive fish who won't nip at his fins. And if there is enough room that he can have his own little territory if he feels the need.

Not very easily no. I used to have a tank with a Betta (siamese fighting fish) in it and all the other little fish would swim up to it and nibble on his long tail. The poor thing nearly got eaten alive! Your Betta needs to really be in a tank with just little cory catfish who are so peaceful and will leave him alone. These catfish are lovely and are real characters. Keep a seperate tank for your smaller more active fin nippers! They arent being cruel, they think his tail is food! Hope this helps u out!

The only things Betta don't get along with are goldfish and each other.

The Betta will fight it. Betta's will fight anything. That's why they need to be in their own bowl.
