Do you have access to a drill with a small drill bit? If you can drill a hole in dowel rod near the top - tie some long different thin colored ribbons through it. Also glitter would be nice - make swiggly lines on rod with glue and sprinkle glitter on the glue - shake off excess glitter and let dry.

PS - use a quick drying glue

Use red and black tape - goes on fast, stays stuck on and comes off easy afterwards.
