Ive had a tattoo on tues with a black and red section, the black section looks fine with the scab falling off nicely but the red section is alot more tender to touch, the scabs look alot more textured, it has a red lining of inflamed skin and a small area yesterday suddenly went all gooey like thick ink and now that bit smells differently to the rest not a pleasant smell either although not a very bad one?
p.s the red and black parts are well clear of each other

needs to be sorted asap. You have an infection. Go see your doctor or the tattooist. for the rest of the weekend, apply savlon or germalen - anything with an antiseptic in it. do not wash with regular water. use a diluted salt mix.

good luck

Wash the area with the tattoo 3-4 times daily with a mild antibacterial soap using your finger tips NOT a wash cloth. Apply A&D to the area just a light coating. ( Or what ever you tattoo artist told you to use) Do NOT cover the area up let it get as much air as possible. Keep your clothes from rubbing up against it.
It' sounds like its just irreated. Keep doing that for a few days if it don't look like its getting any better then contact your tattoo artist. If you got it done at a shop or had a friend do it. If the needles were clean like they should be and the ink is not bad and you kept it clean like you are suppose to then there is no reason for it to be infected. Sometimes if it gets irreated by clothes rubbing againts the area or you keeping it bandage up or touching the area a lot it can get like that sometimes. The goo is problably from the ointament you are using or just from where the scab is coming off.

Don't clean it thoroughly. You should never scrub, wipe or remove anything from a tattoo. Just keep it open and antiseptic spray would be best as it will dry in to it. Vaseline is best once it starts to dry up as it prevents itching. You don't want the scab to come off straight away, you don't want to be left with any scaring. Go back where you had it done and ask them to take a look. They won't mind, the people in these places are covered in them, they'll have seen every kind of possible reaction and will know the best cure. It is only early days. I'm sure it will dry up in no time, don't pick at it or mess with it!

Some people have a reaction to the red ink for some reason. Sounds like you are too. May have some infection started. Since it is still pretty new, you might be able to put some anti-bacterial on it, like Neosporin. Just lightly though. That will help it heal and not dry out.

Some people are allegeric to the red ink used for tattoo's. I wouldn't let it go too long because the odor could be a sign of infection as well. If it's not better by tomorrow go see your tattoo artist and see what he/she suggests. I'm sure they are aware of what an infection looks like.

I would get it checked out, it sounds like the start of an infection, especially if it starts to get itchy, until then put an antiseptic spray on and dont cover it up.

sounds like infection, it doesn't matter what colour the ink is, it shouldn't smell like that. Go get it checked out, if it gets too bad, your skin will be badly scarred from the infection, and that's one wasted tattoo

red does that for some reason, the red bit will take a while longer to heal. stick a very hot flannel on it a couple of times a day and you'll be right.

Sounds like infection, might go to the doc if it persists or try some antibiotic ointment from the drug store. Good luck!
