if given the choice he can only go where he feels most welcome. A lot of divorces cause children to "take sides".He should avoid this if at all possible.
As far as moving ,suggest he look at it as an opportunity to begin a new life in a new place. It doesn't have to be a negative experience.

Well I would need details, but if one of the parents was staying in town, then he can stay with that parent. Otherwise, I'm sorry, but he's gonna have to go...
