"I think ya hurt me real bad this time, Wendy..." Oh, my God, what a movie! I am 63, not 73, and I loved it. The Shining came out from Warner Brothers in 1980. Moments to remember - that incredible backwards fall down the double flight of super wide stairs when she finally clobbers him with the baseball bat... Lloyd the Bartender... "Thank you for saying so, Mr. Torrance." It is a great movie. I particularly love the sound of the wind hitting the side of the gigantic hotel at night during the blizzard which rages on all throughout the story. Those long shots from time to time, to help establish the infinite-dismal, and the single sound or cry of an owl or loon... talk about atmosphere! And that aerial tracking shot starting right from the first frame? Amazing... "You've always been the caretaker. I should know. I've always been here." (Delbert Brady) That long shot way down the hall of the two party-goers with the animal masks on at the end of the corridor who have obviously been interrupted doing something naughty... when Shelley is freaking out dashing around the hallways, flashing that giant knife... oh, by the way, that tune behind the final credits is "Midnight." Maybe someone will give you a few more specs on it. It certainly catches the era.

I love Stephen King, and I think it was one of his best works. Which Shinning is on? There are actually two movies....one has Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall in it. It was made in 1980 and is about 2 and 1/2 hours long. The other one...is a much longer movie. The second movie has Steven Weber and Rebecca De Mornay and runs about 4 1/2 hours and was made in 1997.

I like the second movie the best...even though I love Jack Nicholson, cuz he is so scary!!!

When I first saw I didn't think so due to the informal rule concerning scary movies that no child may be killed and obviously not his mother either so when the caretaker was killed I could conclude noone else would be killed.
But since I've seen it again I had to change my mind, the acting and the plot is truly great, Strangely enough Stephen King hated it and made a very lame version.

Yes I just turned it off I'm such a chicken! The blood bath raging through the corridors of the hotel urgh! Tried to watch wolf creek recently and OH MY GOD I could'nt watch it til the end it was just too grizzly my imagination ran riot and I had to run away from the t.v. It's about Australian Backpackers who get murdered by this total weirdo argh I will see him in my sleep tonight!!! The Excorcist was awful too I watched it when I was babysitting in this huge house when I was only 14 almost died I was s ofreaked out by it! I need to stick to nice movies and save the scary ones for when I've got company.

Did you know that the director kept rolling the film without breaks, when
Jack Nicholson was hammering the door with the axe, and gave Jack free
reign to ad-lib, hence, the well known phrase that he copied from the chat show, "Here's Johnny", made him a household name.
Regards.
