Does anyone know why the movie 'The Color Purple' was titled with such a name?
What is the signifigance of the color "Purple"?
Why not Blue, Red, or Yellow??

Purple was the color of the flowers in the fields where Nettie and Celie played. They went there for peace. It was very pretty and tranquil.

It's a based on the novel "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. The reasons why? I do not know for i have not read the book and I've only seen the ending of the movie.....

I have heard it's Biblical in nature. Apparently, God gets angry when the color purple is overlooked, just like the main character in the book (or movie) is overlooked). Not sure I completely follow, but do some searching.

in the end there is a field full of purple flowers. what kind they are i don't know. cellie and her sister are reunited in the same field they did the patty cake type thing. that's the only thing i can think of. i'm sure there is deeper meaning to it all. i'm just not smart enough to catch it.

In the movie, Shug and Cellie are walking and talking and Shug says "I think it pisses God off when you pass by the color purple and don't notice it" and Cellie says, "you sayin God is vain?" etc. The color purple is ignored just as Cellie is, and both Cellie and the color purple are beautiful in God's eyes...and sadly ignored. It is quite powerful if you think about it.
