How did oil company employees suddenly get Bush's support to gain such diplomatic posts? Why is the US overseeing an oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea through Afghanistan to the Arabian sea?

It would not surprise me at all. Qualifications are secondary to political and business connections. Bush is all about loyalty, not ability.

What you mean "suddenly", Kemosabe? Putting knowledgeable people in diplomatic posts just makes good sense and has been done by every administration. Who would you prefer as ambassador to an important oil-producing country, maybe a seamstress or a painting contractor?

For that matter, doesn't it seem appropriate to appoint a proven chief executive from an internationally recognized eingineering and oil service firm like Halliburton to the Vice Presidency of our own couintry? After all, we ARE interested in oil and the countries that produce it, including our own.

did you know also that we had a deal with the controlling power in afganistan to build that pipline and that the deal went south on bush and his oil buddies 2 weeks befor 9-11. btw... the controlling power in afganistan at that time was... none other than the taliban! wow!
