Uninstall the USB2 port and reinstall it. Press START, right click My computer, properties, hardware, device manager, click the + sign on the USB ports, Click each USB root hub (right click) and uninstall them. then right click and scan for new hardware or just reboot and it'll automatically reinstall all your USB2 ports. Do the same thing for anything that doesn't work when you plug in to USB2.

First re-install itunes and make sure you have the most updated version. As the USB port that could be bad, if you plug it up and your IPOD charges ... the USB port should be fine. There are some IPOD Diag software available all over the internet (free) also there is a manual way to "restart" your IPOD, I believe it's press menu and the -> about 5 times and it resets .. or it may be menu and <- ... not sure I don't own an IPOD ... I've just worked on them a few times.

do u mean from your itunes library.??? as i had this problem when i first purchased my ipod. we discovered that it was because the usb port was a slowish one and not a newish version one. it needs to be an up to date one.look in instructiosn for speed needed. cost about 15 to get another one and this solved the problem. before i ahd this i would connect the ipod to usb with library open and not songs would be transfered. once i did this everything was fine, although it takes 30 seconds ish to notice ipod is connected and to actually start uploading songs. hope this helps. if not try frequently asked questions /problems section of instructions or apple site. this may help.
goodluck.
