You would need to have the sun so you could concentrate the rays of the sun through the glass and then onto the paper.

What Heinz M and a few others above said. However, to get a spot that's hot enough, you need a bright day and a magnifying glass that's big enough. The 2" diameter magnifying glass that I have won't make a fire on even the brightest day here in Southern California. But -- my dad's 4" will do it in summer.

Two requirements... Bright and warm sunshine and a piece of paper. Hold the magnifying glass between the sun and the paper until you get a small nearly white spot. Hold it there and the paper will catch fire. Arson is very punishable.

Easy, sit outside on a really sunny day (summer is best) and tilt the magnifying glass(about 3-4 inches away from the paper) until you get the light to concentrate into one point, then move the glass closer or father away as needed to make a tiny intense point of light, hold still and it will light a fire...
I used to burn my name into wood all of the time, make sure to concentrate the light into the smallest possible circle, you may have to try different distances away from your target and it may take a while to find the proper tilt to get the light focused. Good luck, but please do not burn insects, that is cruel!! It is much more fun to take a piece of wood and burn designs etc into it.
PS DO NOT put your finger in the light, it really hurts even when the light isnt concentrated alot, I burned myself accidentally one time... ouch!

Hold the glass (held between the paper and the sun) over the paper and make the picture of the sun as small as possible by moving the glass towards or away from the paper.

Adjust the glass to focus on something combustible. A bit of paper or some dry leafs will do the trick. With a steady hand, you wil see the fire beginning in a few minutes.

You get a mirror, and make the sunlight bounce off the mirror through the glass. (In your case, a magnifying glass, but it could also be a piece of glass or glasses) Then put the piece of paper under that and in a few seconds you should get a fire going.

Just take the magnifying glass and hold it so that the sun shines directly through it . pull and push it away from the object or insect to burn until you have the smallest possible point of light, presto ...fire

are you able to declare,"animal cruelty" (confident, for sure i understand you could once you're a cop) can not you purely inform you associates to maintain them interior or some thing? If not, shoot them (the cats, no the associates) with an airsoft gun and notice what occurs. Hehehe! WAIT! Did I purely say that? No, do not 'reason that ought to be "merciless" ; )
