Since the birth of my son two years ago I seem to have lost the ability to think outside of the box. When something doesn't go as planned I am stumped. Prior to pregnancy alternatives automatically came to mind whereas nowadays they don't and worse still, if I do actually remember (and by the way, where has my memory gone?) to try and think of an alternative, I can't. Decision-making is a nightmare too, I just dither. Sometimes decision making with a tetchy two year old in tow is difficult and I accept as a mum that I can often be preoccupied which doesn't help but is there anything that I can do to get my brain back to how it was?
I'm going to put this in the science section rather than the pregnancy one because I'd really like to know the science behind this. (Always assuming that there is some!).

I'm the same- I get lost for words half way through a conversation- its quite embarrassing!- I think its probably due to the fact that you are tired!- two year olds seem to have unlimited energy- the other night I was heating an empty bottle for my newborn- derrrrr- until I realised!!- Do you work?- I find when I go back to work my concentration improves- I think it stretches your mind a bit more rather than- dare I say- the monotony of home life- don't take that the wrong way!!

I think you could be right, I have a reasonably high IQ and was in a good well paid job until I had my two kids. I had 7 years out of the job scene and now that my youngest has started school Iam back looking for work.
Youll find that when the kids are at school you get a bit of your independance back, a bit of a social life and more adult conversation. Instead of the humdrum life of housework and kids you can find something to do to stimulate your brain.
I fully sympathise with you but it will get better, I went through it but as the kids get older it gets better........I promise.

It hard to say. Maybe it isn't do to the pregnancy. What other symptoms do you have? Psychologically, human alway try to connect events to a major event but this may or may not be true. Yes pregnancy does cause major hormonal changes and can cause effects to the brain but it is unusual for this occurance to continue after 2 years. Unless there were complications during the pregnancy such as hypertention or some thromboembolic event such as stroke. I would consult a physician and if your are experiencing any other symptoms.

It's not a birth itself, it's change of the lifestyle and your new responsibilities. Men don't ever get that. Don't worry, as soon as your son get older you are slowly will became yourself again even better that before. With second child it's not that painful. Just try to find something apart from interests of your little one. Try something new. Brain needs some shake up to work properly. Good Luck!
PS You are not alone trust me!

maybe thats why some women dont go out for at least a month after giving birth in some countries!
i remember looking the wrong way while crossing the road with my pushchair with my 2 week old son and narrowly being hit by a car, i was shaking and crying all the way home.

Ha ha ha, the curse of most mums. Start with Sodoku, make time for it every day, just sling baby in front of the TV for 15 minutes then at bedtime, continue where you left off.

well u have had to adjust to another person within you for 9 months .alot of the bodys defences shut down to cope with this and u can become hypersensitive .also the body produces lots of hormones that affect you.with time u should return to yourself
