I suppose it is because your idea of patriotism is the conservative notion of patriotism where you praise your country endlessly, usually have a flag to wave with you, and constantly say how proud you are to be an American. Perhaps it is because you believe America is fine the way it is and doesn't need to be changed. Perhaps liberals come across as unpatriotic because they are often critical of the goverment's actions. I think that liberals feel that acting in a patriotic way is doing what you feel is best for the country. Republicans tend to be Nationalists and Democrats are anti-nationalists but that doesn't mean that both parties can't be patriotic.

I am a Democrat and I love where I live. I just think the best way to represent her is to 1- Take care of our environment and not pollute, etc. 2- Keep labor unions and public services that are supported through our taxes. 3- Not blindly believe everything our politicians tell us.

Let me ask you a question. Does being patriotic to your own country mean you have to thumb your nose at all other countries and step on them at every opportunty, thinking your country is better than every other country? I have friends in other countries and I don't think I am any better than them. Wouldn't the concept of "hands across the world" be a better slogan than, "I'm proud to be an American... where at least I know I'm free."? Don't you think Canadians and Mexicans and the British would find that song a little offensive to them? And wouldn't the first concept be better for our international relations and therefore our economy than the second, which basically translates to "We are better than all of you and we can kick your butts any time because we have the best government and military in the world!"? Smug "American"!

depending on your meaning of a patriot is ..
if you believe that questioning your government is unpatriotic or if do not support an elected official in all desicions that he or she makes is unpatriotic or if you believe its ok to give uo rights that have been granted you by those before you to protect your future as unpatriotic then by all means most librals are unpatriotic according to you and those that think like you
however it is still there right as patriotic americans to ask those hard questions that most are afraid to ask because the government might paint them as unpatriotic in which case what kind of government would that be not a demacracy for a democracy is built by a variaty of veiw points co-existing to increase its cultural awareness to set an example to all those whose are frorced into dictatorsips that freedom is fought for not just birthrighted to us because our government wont condem us for our questions but encourage our inqueries to help see all veiw points instead of those with the financial arms alone
so I guess this probly wont make much sense to you
you should understand the meaning of liberty and freedom before you question the patriotism of another and then this might make more sense
god bless and keep you safe if it is right that he should do so

The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war. Why have you come to this conclusion? I'm liberal, and I have a Flag hanging on my house, Stars on my windows for the members of the military in my family, I believe in the constitution.

I think you might want to revisit this

Why do most conservatives present themselves as wanting
a one party nation?
That doesn't seem patriotic.
