You can try a high gain wireless card. Some have a connector that you can attach to an antenna. If you are having trouble getting a signal from your home network, then you can get a signal booster for your wireless router

One of the problems with internal Wfi is they are buried inside your computer and they don't have the best antenna. The benifit of them is they don't stick out of your notebook, so it makes it more convenient for pulling it in and out of a computer case and using it's wireless connection.

However, if you want a better wireless connection with more speed you need to get a better wireless network card for your computer. I think, they just recently started building notebook computers with the faster network cards, but I don't know how they do as far as signal strength goes.

I'm not sure where you are trying to use your notebook that you're having the problem, but if it's at home one thing that could be effecting your signal is the location of the other device you are trying to connect to.

One of the things that interfere with wireless networks is cordless phones, because they are on a frequency band that is very close to each other and if you put the two devices close to each other they interfere with each other.

It's recommended that you do NOT put a wireless DSL modem, Broadband modem, network access point or wireless printer server near the base for a cordless phone, because of the interference problem.

I hope this information helps answer your question.

Signal strength has nothing to do with your computer WiFi...it is dependent upon signals in area. Open wireless network selection box and choose strongest signal IF not password protected. good luck.
