Fish can go for days without eating, you have plenty of time to stop at the lfs for goldfish flakes.

Betta pellets will not work. As Betta's are a carnivorous fish and goldfish are omnivores (meaning they eat mostly plant matter). Betta food is a mixture of high protein substances such as blood worms.
I agree that extremely small pieces of lettuce might work. But it would be best to run to a pet store and spend the $1.50 it will cost you for the goldfish food.

Betta pellets will do in a pinch. But as soon as you can go to the store and buy goldfish food. It has different levels of protein and fat than tropical fish food.
