I have an IBM Intellistation M Pro (68686AU), which was working fine, brfore I removed the RAM sticks. Now that I have tried to reinstall them, I get no video, just 1 beep, then 3, then 1 again. What's going on her?

If its humid enough, like >%60 RH or so where you did this work you probably didn't destroy anything. If you are reinstalling the same sticks, its probably that they aren't in all the way, sometimes it is tricky.

Phoenix BIOS Beep Codes: 1-3-1 You'll need to replace the motherboard.

AMI BIOS Beep Codes: 1 Long, 3 Short Beeps You've probably just added memory to the motherboard since this is a conventional or extended memory failure. Generally this is caused by a memory chip that is not seated properly. Reseat the memory chips.

You will have to try just one RAM stick at a time. Try them both in the first slot. Then try them in the second slot... You may find that one of the RAM sticks have failed, or one of the slots failed.

Look for your manual, or visit the IBM website to look for your manual. The 1 Beep, 3 Beep code should give you the answer. (It's my guess that it is complaining about RAM)

either not installed correctly (1), mixed chips (2), or the wrong chips (3).

1. make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions. if the contacts don't line up, or the chip is smaller than the socket, see 2 or 3.

2. all memory chips must be the same size and speed or they will not work properly. remove older chips and only use newer chips.

3. there are 2 types of memory chips. some motherboards require only 1 type. if you have the other type, it will not work.

you didn't wear an ElectroStatic Discharge Strap... You probably blew out the memory chips with the high static voltage charge built up in your body.

buy a strap (some are only $0.99 !!!) and you need to buy all new RAM, now!

Idiot!

these are beep codes and are used to inform you of a fault. it sounds like a problem with the memory sticks.
take a look here:-
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4B9PPW#beep
try reseating the ram sticks or just putting one in at a time to see which one is the faulty one.

This is for Linuxiac- You're the Idiot! I know a gazillion people who have upgraded their memory including myself who just idi it! No one that I know had any "electrostatic" anything! The guy probably just doesn't have them installed properly as the machine worked fine before he messed with them.
To the author of the question, you just have to ignore "IGNORANCE" from these jerks!

sounds like you got the ram or mobo with static. always touch something metal before you touch any hardware. and never work on carpet. try buying a cheap stick of ram first.
