It's not a bad job. I'm a girl and I did it :D Singing slave songs probably won't ensure your employment long though, figuring it makes you look like you can't do an easy job without feeling like a slave lol! No offense intended darling, but really it's easy!

It could definitely be deemed inappropriate and/or racially insensitive. I'm assuming you are going to be an "at will" employee, meaning they can fire you for any reason they want (as long as it's not illegal). You might think it's funny, but I doubt others will see it the same way. You'll especially want to avoid doing it when you are still new to the job.

Po Lazarus from 'O Brother Where Art Thou' sounds a bit slavish, but it might just be prisoners on a chain gang.
Close though.

In the film "Blazing Saddles" when the black people were asked to sing a slave song one of them sang "I get no kick from champaign, mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all. So tell me, how can it be true, that I get a kick out of you."

Anyway, here's a good negro spititual

Swing Low Sweet Chariot

I looked over Jordan and what did I see
Coming for to carry me home?
A band of angels coming after to me
Coming for to carry me home

chorus
Swing low, sweet Chariot
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet Chariot
Coming for to carry me home

If you get there before I do
Coming for to carry me home
Tell all my friends I'm coming home too
Coming for to carry me home

Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down
Coming for to carry me home
Yet still my soul feels heavenly bound
Coming for to carry me home.
