What is it about getting older that makes a guy talk s*** ? These are the ones that tell stories that begin with "When I was your age" etc.

Sure it's possible.
You have to remember it's just a matter of physics.
If he can meet the ball "head on" with the bat, and the head of the bat is moving a "X" speed, the ball will travel "Y" distance. And that distance can definitely be over 400 feet but it takes either a very strong person; or really good head speed on the bat.
I've seen it done, but have never seen a team where most of the team mates can all do it. If he was saying 300 feet or even 325 feet, I'd have no problem believing that most of the team can do it.
After all, 400 feet is a pretty darn good poke in hard ball!

It all depends on the size and compression of the softball...A softball can be anywhere from 11 to 16 inches and of different compressions...I think if you have a highly compressed 11 or 12 inch softball, it is possible for someone to hit is 400 feet. No way would someone hit a 16 inch softball that far...

I think its bull. Once or twice can be achieved. But for a whole team of out-of-shape 40 year olds to consistantly hit it 400 yards, i would say he is either confused about how much are 400 yards, or he is just making things up. I´m not saying it ain´t possible because it is, and an average guy can hit the ball on the sweet spot and drive it that long. But i doubt it is a regular thing.

i'm fairly confident I have considered a four hundred' shot. I stated a guy hit a softball onto the right field roof of previous Tiger stadium, clone of Reggie Jackson once did. Very staggering. No, i will't do it.

Sure it can be done. You have to take into account the compression of the ball, the quality of the bat (no $20 Walmart bat is gonna do it), the force generated in the swing (force=mass x acceleration), and the mechanics and technique of the hitter. But make no mistake, that can't be done on a regular basis. Your boss is full of it!

I think he's lying to you.
But my brother-in-law actually can hit a softball farther than 400 feet!
He's unusually strong, a natural athlete, 42 yrs old, and in ok shape. We've seen him do it every summer for the past 20 years. And, yes, we've actually measured because we couldn't believe it the 1st time we saw him do it!
Needless to say, he gets picked first all the time! : )

No, hes bullsh*tting you. The balls are bigger thrown at a slower velocity and im guessing most of those guys swings arent that fast either. Probably just trying to intimidate you or talk himself to be a baseball god.
