Or does it require civil, non-violent action against unjustice to be considered a patriot?

If our FF waved flags and bought "we support our troops" ribbons, would America even exist?

Apparently. And Bones, are you assuming only muslims are terrorists? We produced Dahmer, McVeigh, Gacy, all Christian, European Americans. And the question is about how materialism is patriotic. You don't have to wave a flag to show patriotism, and you don't have to care about America to wave a Chinese flag. Patritotism is inside, not something you can buy at K-Mart.

A Taiwanese flag? Where can I get one.

Carter took care of us getting anything made in Taiwan, when he got China into the UN and got Taiwan kicked out.

The sale of those ribbons represent various groups' effort to provide moral support for our troups.

Would our nation exist if our forefathers ONLY engaged in civil, non-violent action against injustice? Nah.

Waving a flag may feel patriotic, and what's wrong with that? Our FF DID wave flags, only theirs were battle standards which looked remakably like our flag. Non-violent action is all well and good untill another raghead finds a way to kill innocent Americans. I'd rather see them die than us.In factI'd rather see them die first.

Of course, it does not make one a patriot, however, one can not rule out that the flag, for whatever reason, is a symbol that evokes strong feelings. I do believe that "we" need to be sensitive to that.
