I don't think there is a single most important role. One cannot have success without the others. The operative word here is team. Everyone has a role and a job to do. If they do it well success will come , if not then the team will obviously suffer a little. Take Brazil. Full of fantastic players but this WC didn't gel or play as a team. Oh and I'm not bagging on Brazil, I really have a lot of respect for them. It's just that on the pitch all players need to work as one, like a well oiled machine. So I guess that is the most important role as I see it, playing as one.

all of them because if forwards mess up there is no goals
if defense messes up the other team has a shot on goal
and if the keeper messes up the other team scorces
midfield is both forward and defense kinda so i guess theyd be a little more important but not much

goalie is very important because if a goal goes pass him, he would feel like it was his fault. [good thing no goals go pass buffon ;D] haha
but midfield is very important too, cause they help out both forwards and the defense.
forward is also really important cause theyre who makes the goals.. and defense is important cause it could be their fault a goal was made...
hahaha, i listed like almost all the positions. :] all are very important, each position has their own duty. the whole team is important, its all about the team.

NONE. THE TEAM IS MOST IMPORTANT. if there was only a striker to make the amazing shots, ther wouldnt be anybody to make a play and cross the ball in to him to make the glorious goal. striker shines, but you need the WHOLE team to make that striker shine, so its really the whole team shining.

In soccer does not exists the "most important" role: football is a team-sport where each individual is needed but no one is indispensable. That can be confirmed by thousand of examples in soccer... at any level.
Then there is the other side: for the French... it is LOOOOOOOOOOSING!!!

The Goalie, because the goalie is the main defense, like on penalties if the ball goes torwards the goal, then it depends on the goalie if it is a goal. Like, if the goalie gets to it, it's not a goal but if the goalie dosen't get to it then it is a goal.
