My guess is you have some windows updates are other program updates that are stuck, in that they never seem to register as having completed. You'd really need to note more specifically, the restart message, and what it's indicating requires the computer to be restarted.

Chances are you are running Windows which means you have a memory leak. Over time all your memory will leak out the bottom of the computer and you won't even know it. Even if you move your computer there won't be any trace of the memory that leaked out cause it is odorless, colorless and tasteless. Some people install memory leak detectors but they are expensive and require periodic testing and if you exceed the governments recommended allowable emmissions standards you may be required to submit a permit request for memory leakage and even worse, be subjected to fines and memory disposal fees. You can find out more about memory leaks and emmisions standards by checking the EPA's website or by calling your local government agency.

Are you sure it's not just hibernating? Instead of holding the power button down, just tap it and wait a minute to see if it comes back.

If that is true, and it isn't just in 'sleep' mode, then you really have a problem, probably heat related, and should check the fans, dust the inside of the case...

Try a LiveCDrom, and see if it 'dies'... http://pclinuxos.com
