I know of plenty of female authors. I wouldn't generalize like that.

I'll have you know I've read EVERYTHING ever written by Anne Rice, Judith McNaught, Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, Jane Austin, Ann Rule, Anita Shrive, Judith Tarr and dozens of other FEMALE authors.........the reason most have only heard of Mary Shelly is because few people today think READING is worth their time! I actually saw a question here just last night that put DOWN people who enjoy reading as being "stupid"! Well if that is what takes, just call ME stupid, reading is far better than wasting time turning into a mindless vegetable in front of a television set!

I apologize for my curtness, but I don't appreciate being called dumb when I bet I read more than you do!

Daniel Steele (bad writer, but a female author).

J. K. Rowlings - Harry Potter author, and much more famous than Mary Shelly.

George Sands - a man's name, but a female author.

I guess I must not be part of your "you people are dumb". Mary Shelly is very well known because the story "Frankenstein" is so profound and is part of the popular culture. "Sense and Sensibility" just doesn't make for a good horror movie either.

If you're talking about female writers from along time ago, the reason we don't know that many apart from the obvious few is because females were viewed as being inferior to men and therefore not intelligent enough to be considered as writers. Many women did write however under male pseudonyms eg Richmal Crompton. But that would explain why no one's really heard of any female writers from the olden days.

HAHAHA, by the title line I thought you assumed that old Frankenstein was a female author. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

And you are the stupid one, those other 2 lady authors are very well known. If you ever learn to read above a 2nd grade level get their books.

Almost everyone has heard of Anne Rice and Jane AustEn.

How about Katherine Kerr, are you smart enough to have ever heard of her?

Jane Austen and Anne Rice are both very popular, homey.

You need to admit that you're wrong on this one. It's ok. We all are sometimes.

it is not the fact that no one knows any other female authors'. The fact is that YOU do not know any other female authors because your reading habits have kept you out of the loop, so to speak. You need to broaden your horizons to get out of the rut you are obviously stuck in at this time.
