I have been using the same guitar strings (XL '10s) for about 1.5 years now since I started playing and recently realized that it may be a good idea to try out some other guages, brands, etc............
Does anybody have any suggestions on what kind of strings would be good?
If so can you please post them and thier characterristics ( sustain, durability, sound, etc),? thanks!

another xl .10 user here, wouldn't change them for the world. what kind of strings you want to go for really depends a lot on your fingers. if they're strong and well calloused, i'd say move up a gauge or two, you'll get more sustain.

I'm actually managing a music shop atm, you use XL '10's eh? if you like the 10 range, the GHS Boomers, and DR's are usually the way people go, I'm also a fan of the Ernie Ball feel, the regular slinky's. if you want to try a lighter string, try Dean Markley's set of lights. I also suggest Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's, if you want the strength of the thickness of the 10 gauge strings on top, and the lightness of the 9 gauge on the bottom.

properly identity bypass with hybrid slinkys yet those are on the heavy facet on the low end, yet try the super slinkys by ability of ernie ball. length 9 or ten may well be super for that. 9 is slightly looser feeling than 10s, and thats purely very own prefrance the only time you will possibly stray from the two a 9 or 10 is that in case you have been enjoying steel and you're tuning all the way down to a drop tuning.

Ernie Ball 009 to 42 -- third string change from 16 to 15. -- but everybody has different tastes, don't they.

DR handmade strings. They last forever and sound consistent.

Make the cat howl before you pick the guts, then you will have an idea of how they sound.
