The two best programs that you can use that will not conflict with Norton are Ad-aware and Spybot.
Ad-aware is the better of the two so be sure to run it first, then run Spybot. Between the two of them you will get ride of every piece of spyware you computer has.
Both programs are free and can be downloaded from the following link:

Ya like others I agree Norton AntiVirus is a resource hog and because it's popular hackers tend to develop malicious software to disable it. I disliked it when I had it and because of where I work I recently switched over to Trend Micro Pc-cillin Internet Security 2006 as I was able to get it free. So far I like it for its anti-virus protection and spyware protection then again I can't really attest to it since I don't go to a lot of new sites and the ones I do find on search engines it will let me know before I click on that link whether or not it is safe.
When it comes to downloading software off the Internet I download software from 2 places only - either http://www.download.com or http://www.sourceforge.net . If I find a program I want to download elsewhere I'll either research it on Google to see what other people have said about it or ask in a forum such as Yahoo! Answers.
But anyhow to answer the question you did ask - Webroot's Spy Sweeper is the best in my opinion even though you should know Norton does provide some level of protection against spyware. I don't personally have Spy Sweeper but my girlfriend does and ever since she's had it I haven't had to fix her computer because of spyware messing it up. Before she bought it, the websites she was going to was always messing her computer up. It was a mess and drove me nuts. I'm so glad she got it.
Besides protecting you from spyware it also protects your computer from adware and prevents some settings in Internet Explorer from being changed so that something like your homepage doesn't get changed on you behind your back and taking you to a website that could potentially download more crud on your computer. It also protects you from keyloggers. Keyloggers is a program that monitors everything that you type. Not a good program at all to have if your at, say for example, a site buying a television there and giving your credit card information and where you live.
You can buy Spy Sweeper at their website at http://www.webroot.com and download it there right on the spot or have them deliver a CD to your house. Which would be best to have the actual CD so that you can keep it in a safe place just in case something was to ever happen to your computer. Or if you don't feel comfortable giving your credit card information over the Internet you can buy it any place that sells software.
Note: It's important to realize that nobody should depend on programs like Norton & Spy Sweeper to keep them 100% safe as these programs are only programmed to go by what they call a definition list. And everyday a hacker develops a new malicious program. So if a hacker develops a virus and sends it to you and it's not in that definition list the program won't pick it up.
To stay trouble-free as much as possible you should never click on links that have an odd address (i.e. http://1234abbnas...). Don't pay any attention to those odd e-mails you get called SPAM and don't download or install files that has a weird file name to them. Also, keep your operating system updated as well so if you have Windows you should regularly go to Windows Update to download the latest security patches (to find Windows Update click on Start --> Windows Update). If you have Linux or Mac go to their respective sites to obtain the latest updated patches. I tell my friends having a computer is kind of like having a car.

I advise this.
Remove Norton then try any or all of the following.
Just so you know you should use some type of antivirus protection.
Removing Symantec / Norton AntiVirus and LiveUpdate
Click on Start and then Control Panel.
In the control panel, double-click on Add / Remove Programs.
Look through the list of installed programs for any item that says
either Symantec, Norton, or LiveUpdate (for example "Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition" or "Norton AntiVirus 2002").
Begin looking for Symantec or Norton items. LiveUpdate should be done last. For each Symantec, Norton, or LiveUpdate item, select the item and click Remove or Change / Remove or Add / Remove. Follow the instructions, and click Yes or Yes to all when prompted.
NOTE: If you attempt to remove LiveUpdate and receive a warning message about other Symantec applications being registered with LiveUpdate, click Yes to ignore the warning and remove LiveUpdate.
When you are done, there should be no items in the list that say
"Norton,""Symantec," or "LiveUpdate."
Close the Add / Remove Programs window. Close the Control Panels window.
Reboot your computer if it hasn't already automatically rebooted.
If present, delete the C:\Program Files\Symantec folder.
If present, delete the C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus
(or C:\Program Files\Norton) (or C:\Program Files\NavNT) folder.
If present, delete the
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.

Most of the people that claim Norton isn't any good or is a resource hog don't know. They just repeat what other, who didn't know what they were talking about either, say.
Windows Defender Beta 2 is an excellent Anti-Spy program. My sister uses it with her Nortons and has no conflicts.

I run Norton 2006 Internet suite. I use Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Windows Defender (yes it takes three different programs to catch all the crap). None seem to have any problem co-existing with Norton.
Norton isone of the best out there, don't listen to folks who say get rid of it.
Best thing about these programs is they can be had for free! at download.com search for Ad-Aware and Spybot and download free of charge! Windows defender is free from microsoft too!

hi, try a more secure browser.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Ewido claims to have no conflicts with your NAV. http://www.ewido.net/en/compatibility/
It's available in both free (no-real time resident protection) and paid (has real-time) versions.
A good program. I like it.
