Start with a question.
Do some web searches and make an outline of different ways to answer the question.
Once you have specific topics about the criminal mind you can then start to write. Just take it 1 paragraph at a time. You will see it really start to develop and take form.
Use note cards to write down quotes and page numbers, biographical information. You may want to do this before you actually start to write. You can then # the note cards so that you have an idea of the order you want to put them (and if you drop them all of your work won't be ruined!).
Good luck!

Yes. I researched this when I was in college. I will give you a great start point. Nearly all Criminal are narcisistic. They do not look at the world through the same set of lenses as we do. If you notice in conversation, or even in acquaintance you can tell much about a person and how they think right away. There are people who would never be able to ever commit a crime because of their morals, values and beliefs. Yet others, it is hard for them to walk the straight and narrow. The have different values, beliefs, and morals. Mainly their belief system is based on their own desires, own self gain, and satisfaction. On a smaller scale the same personality type is present when people cheat on their mates, lie to friends and family, take home belongings innocently from their jobs, and so on. The only difference is the degree to which they take the level to. Many people have criminal minds. It is a self centered, narcisistic, sense of entitlement, not think aboput the longterm outcome but the immediate desires. These people have conduct disorder. They usually start out rebelling against their parents. If they cannot get along with their family, they begin having conflict in school, on the job, in society etc. They do not like to have authority over them. The more control placed on them,. the more they rebel. It is as though, they never mature in their minds.

First off, I would tell you teacher that this is a foolish subject to ask someone to research. Ok tell them after the class is over. Who’s criminal mind? A mass murderer or a petty thief? These folks have been studied for years and you would have to get a one on one interview and ask them why. Actually, some of these guys have been kept alive just to figure them out. The liberals think we should reason and talk to them. Sure some can grow up, become rehabilitated, get saved by the Lord, but actually we all have a criminal mind. Therefore, write a paper about yourself and see what your professor says. I hope this is a college level course.

OK, old fashioned view is nature vs nurture; really old fashioned view is that criminals are just "lesser" human beings, not really civilized.
I think if you don't narrow the topic a lot, it is hopeless. Too much info. Too many theories. Too many types of criminals A serial killer or mass murderer is a LONG way from someone who is driving five or 10 miles over the speed limit on an Interstate Highway. But they are both criminal acts.
i saw a tv show on the criminal mind recently where the researcher was arguing that serial killers all have these 3 factors in common.
-brain injury as chidren
-some form of mental illness
-severe childhood abuse (physical, sexual or both)
Partly, this is interesting because it is different from the triad they have used to describe the childhood of serial killers in the past.
You know, if i were writing your paper, i think i would write about the METHODS of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit; how they learn about the criminal mind.

All a research paper does is answer a question. First you need to think of a question that you want to answer, then do the research to find out the answer (or the absence of one).
What do you find interesting or confusing or fascinating about the criminal mind? Find a good question to ask yourself, then the research process will pretty much fall into place -- just follow where the data leads you.

Research the reports that show how a criminal views different things in a different perspective that those who are not criminals.
You can also look into how the MO of certain criminals follows a certain defined pattern, yet there are those criminals whose MO's defy logic.

If you are having trouble orgainzing your facts, an outline is always a good idea. I hate the things, but I have to admit that they have helped me get going on problem papers in the past.
