3 days ago a 5 yr old child was savagely and brutally gang raped
in batley in west yorkshire. It was never reported in the papers even though the gang is still at large. We should have been warned at least........The media is scared of stirring up more racial hatred i think because the men involved were Asians.

Question - how do you know about this incident?

If it were to be true perhaps the news was not reported for the sake of the families, as you say the retribution backlash may be quite significant and if your five year old child had just been subjected to this evil would you want the press publishing all details and hounding you for more information?

Alternative is that the police are investigating the gang for other reasons and need a non biased jury to convict them - pathetic reason I know but sometimes true - ... until proved guilty.

I agree with you that as members of the public we should be aware of such people and perhaps your last comment isn`t too far from the truth. If you have verifiable details, why don`t you set up a blog to let people know?

The media sometimes make an agreement with the police not to report something immediately if the police decide that the investigation and their chances of catching the guys would be harmed if the details were released to the public. For example, if the details being public meant that the perpetrators might end up knowing what the police know about them, when the police are relying on them not being aware of how much they know to catch them out. Also, if the case is particularly sensitive or dangerous the police might have requested secrecy at this time to protect the child or the family. It could be these or other reasons - there are reasons for a lot of things that aren't always as obvious as they seem.

It happens all the time. I took a cruise last week and we had 7 medical emergencies that rerouted us. There was a death and the U.S. Coast Guard had to fly out from Key West and remove the body from the ship along with a relative. The next day there was another emergency and the Mexican Navy had to come on board to remove a sick person. Then when we docked in Mexico and not Grand Cayman as had been the original plan, there was an ambulance waiting to remove a sick person. We never read anything about it on the net or in the papers. It is like it never happened.

If this is true, it would have been reported somewhere, since when were the media ever worried about stirring up racial hatred, have you never read the Mail or the Sun? I'm not saying it isn't true but am just saying, have you any proof, even a link to your local paper. Then it can be checked out.

We have not heard about this in the South of England and I hope and pray it is not true.

If it is then the backlash could be severe which may be why it was not reported. As has been pointed out. Don't forget, these people would want to be out of the country very quickly when the police get hold of it. if they think they have got away with it they might stick around.

There was something like this reported in answers a few days a five year old was raped and subsequently died. I am sure that the media would have reported this terrible incident, they don't usually hold back to appease people- a story is a story and sad as it is a child's rape is very news worthy. Are you sure of the facts.

i knew nothing of this! thats awful, the poor child! it should have been reported in the papers as other children in the area are at risk while these are still roaming the streets.
the papers full of rubbish these days, i don't even watch the news anymore as its all about the war in iraq, ok i know it is important to keep us updated, but i would like to wake up to happy news just once

yeah... it really depends on two things...

not everything you hear is correct... often word of mouth is wrong more than right... so be carefull what you believe...

and sometimes the media does work with the police for reasons that you or I don't know about... the media usually loves stories like this and you would think they would jump all over it unless they had a good reason not too

Liberal media, what can I say. The fact of the matter is that people are different. And no matter how hard that is for liberals to accept, in order to describe someone, you give racial descriptions. That's not profiling! That's a "description of the suspect" as Ann Coulter puts it.
