If you have an opinion, stand your ground. Be able to back up your viewpoint with facts, logic or personal experience if necessary. It's YOUR opinion, after all.
However, if you acquire new evidence refuting your ideas that make more sense than your previous opinion, you always have the right to chose what is best for YOU. It's OK to be wrong about something. It just means that your previous opinion was formed by what you knew at the time, not that you were stupid.
Just don't be wishy-washy and accept something as "fact" without good evidence. Be critical of new ideas, and if they stand up to scrutiny then make your own decision about where you stand.

If you can't change your opinion based on new information you must have some kind of ego problem where you think you are always right. Not you personally, but I'm just saying in general. Why stick with an opinion if new information proves it wrong? It would just make you look stupid.

In the case of John Kerry, who lost the election because he was weak on national security and originated the term "flip-flopping," New knowledge and experience still means he'll lose on election day...

Plato said that "Dogmatism is the hobgoblin of a small mind".
While we want to know what people "stand for", real thinking people change their minds when exposed to new information all the time. Those that stick to one answer despite new evidence are doomed to fall behind.

Neither is better, an open mind should analyze, adapt to, and or discard knowledge once viewed as completely as it can be.
