A Rowboat is floating in a harbour, and a man is using a long rope to pull the boat toward the harbour wall. When the man has moved 1 meter, how far has the boat moved? Check one of the answers below and provide your reasoning.

What I am thinking is that there is no current and no wind, although it would be nice to explain what it would be if there was a current and wind.

when he moves 1 meter the boat is moving sideways as well as toward the wall

There are two answers

Either he is in the boat, or out of it.

If he is in the boat, and pulling it along, then the boat has also moved one meter.

Otherwise, this is a right triangle problem. Do you have the distance from the boat to the harbor wall? Or the height of the wall?

This is a pythagorean therum problem

A squared +b squared = c squared.

You fail to give critical info. The man is moving, but is the rope? I mean, is he holding the rope and pulling it as he moves, or is he loetting out/ pulling in the rope as he moves? Is there a current? And in which direction are the man and the boat moving??? And where is the man?

more than a meter because the if man moves exactly a meter then the boat will move farther because the water provides very little friction meaning it will keep moving

Somehow I suspect there's a diagram or a sketch that goes with this geometry question, and because we don't have it, we don't have enough information to provide an intelligent answer.
