I help my wife around the house, do the dishes every day, cook about half the meals, mow the lawn, sweep & mop the kitchen floor every few days, clean the bathroom, etc. I vacuum the carpet once a week but she says to vacuum every day. I think that is excessive. How often do you think carpets need to be vacuumed?

Good for you for letting other people in the world know you help around the house. My husband also does the same and without him helping the way he does I would never get the opportunity to relax in the evening. We both work, we both do inside chores, we both do outside chores, and we both have time to play. I was like your wife and wanted vacuuming done daily. As I have gotten older, I have discovered that there are other more important things in life. One to two times per week is plenty. How many times he or myself vacuum depends on how many kids, pets or grand-kids have walked through and if we've taken our shoes off before we get on the carpet. You sound like a loving husband and a good man!!

I think vacuuming every day is too much. Here's why: It is probably the much cleaner way to go, but I'd hate to wake up every morning thinking I had to vacuum every day. How depressing is that?! So, I opt for once a week. Obviously, there are exceptions if there's a spill on the carpet, or something extraordinary that requires a quick vacuum.

I have 6 children and it must be done every day. How many people are in your home? Do you eat outside of the kitchen. Marriage should be a compromise. You can't just go from once a week to every day. That just won't happen. Try three x per week or every other day.

the only thing my husband does around the house is take out the trash. he may wash the dishes and make the bed once or twice a week. he vacuums on very rare occasions.i do all the other dishwashing and cleaning. i do the cleaning and HE helps me. its not a mans job to clean the house. the man is suppose to bring the money home. thats how it works in my family.

I vacuum everyday (or every other) but I have a cat. Otherwise I would say unless you are messy with your floors, I would every three or four days. If she wants it done daily let her do it. Sounds like you help out a lot more than most men.

You should vacuum every day. It will extend the life of the carpet and reduce dust mites. Maybe you can strike a deal and vacuum every other day. She can do the alternate days from you.

Your wife is extraordinarily lucky and you are a treasure. She is being excessive unless you have a house full of pets. People are brainwashed into thinking that dirt lurks and will kill us. Who are we trying to impress with having spotless homes? Vacuuming everyday is a drain on the electricity supplies and is environmentally very unfriendly. I'll bet your wife irons sheets as well...life is too short and is for living!

I vacuumm every other monday, and carpet flick every other day(I have a 9 month old). the Carpet flick is the most amasing cheap invention from Swiffer. Get one from wal-Mart for about 12 bucks! It picks up all the liitle top layers of everyday trash. and KUDOS for helping your wife-it does take team work.

Vacuum them only when they look dirty or weekly or fortnightly. Daily vacuuming will cause the rug to be thin because most of the vacuumed particles consist of the rug and not the dirt or dust.

If she insists on everyday, let her do it. After all you are doing alot already.

Vacuum once a day is not really needed as once a week is not enough. Tell sex once a day for the once a day vacuuming. Bet she changes her mind about vacuuming..
